Description

A row of three town houses, numbers 19, 20, and 21 Ribblesdale Place, were built in the later 1840s and now serve as offices. They are part of a terrace constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house follows a double-depth plan, presenting a single-fronted facade with a rear extension. The houses are two storeys high, with cellars and attics, and each has 2+2+2 bays. Architectural features include a 1st-floor sill band, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course.

Each house has its doorway positioned in the second bay, reached by four steps, and features a doorcase composed of engaged Ionic columns with a plain frieze and moulded cornice, plain jambs with imposts, and a recessed panelled door set beneath a semicircular fanlight with radiating glazing bars; number 20 has a plain fanlight. The windows are all unhorned 12-pane sashes, with raised sills and wedge lintels. To the left of each doorway is a cellar window with a grating over the well. Ridge chimneys are present.

The left gable wall of number 19 features two windows on each floor, mirroring those at the front, and a round-headed attic window with radiating glazing bars. Extending to the rear is a lower two-storey, two-bay back extension with 6-pane sashes.

The interior of number 19 includes a dog-legged staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany handrail, along with a two-room cellar. The front room of the cellar contains a washing boiler and a slopstone. Number 20 retains two original cast-iron fireplaces with tiled surrounds.
