Description
No. 20 Chaddock Street is a small town house built around 1840, with some alterations. The house is made of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has a double-depth single-fronted layout with a back extension on the right and a through-lobby on the left. The building stands two storeys high over cellars and has a wide two-window facade, which includes a first-floor sill-band, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice.
The doorway is located to the right, accessed by one step, and features an elliptical arch with gauged brick voussoirs. It has a set-in doorcase with engaged Tuscan columns, a moulded frieze, and an elliptical fanlight, although both the door and fanlight have been altered. The lobby doorway at the left end has a chamfered stone surround and a board door. There is one window on the ground floor and two above, all with raised sills and wedge lintels, though the glazing has been altered. The cellar window also has a wedge lintel and grating. A ridge chimney is located to the left, shared with No. 19. This house is part of an almost complete set of late Georgian lower-middle class houses on this street.
