Description
This is a small town house dating from around 1840, located on Chaddock Street, Preston. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The house has a double-depth plan, a single front, and a rear extension, with a through-lobby to the right. It’s arranged over two storeys and a cellar, with a two-window facade. A sill band runs along the first floor, and there's a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice.
Two doorways are located on the right side of the front elevation. The main entrance has a round-headed architrave with inset Tuscan quarter-columns, a moulded cornice, and a semicircular fanlight with a convex moulded surround; both the door and fanlight have been altered. To the immediate right is a simpler doorway with a plain stone surround, a small moulded cornice, and a board door. The ground floor has one window, and there are two windows above. All windows have raised sills and wedge lintels, although the glazing has been updated. A cellar window is also present, with a wedge lintel and grating. A ridge chimney is on the left side of the roof, and it has been altered.
The rear of the property and the interior have not been inspected. The house is part of a largely complete group of late Georgian houses built for the lower-middle class, and it is included on the list for its group value.
