Description
Nos. 34, 35, and 36 Avenham Road are a row of three townhouses built around 1815 to 1820, with some alterations. They are constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, with Nos. 34 and 35 painted yellow and featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The houses have a double-depth plan, are single-fronted, and include back extensions. Each house is three storeys tall over cellars, with four first-floor windows arranged as 1, 2, and 1. A continuous moulded gutter cornice runs along the top.
The doorways are located to the left, accessed by 1, 2, and 2 steps. Each doorway is round-headed with moulded architraves and imposts, and includes fanlights—No. 34 has radiating lead tracery, while No. 36 features radiating glazing bars. There is also a lobby doorway to the immediate left of the steps at No. 35, which has a plain stone lintel. Each house has one window on each floor, except for No. 35, which has two windows on the first floor. The windows at No. 34 have altered glazing, while No. 35 has sashed windows without glazing bars on the first floor. No. 36 has sashes without glazing bars at the ground and first floors, and a 12-pane sash at the second floor (with 8 panes above and 4 panes below). All windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. Each house also features a cellar window with an iron grating. There are two chimneys on the ridge, with one located at the right-hand gable. The rear and interiors of the houses were not inspected.
