Description

No. 34 is a town house dating from 1846. It occupies a triangular plot between Nos. 33 and 35 on Ribblesdale Place in Preston. The house is built of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Its trapezoidal, double-fronted design is wedged into the triangular plot; the right-hand end is single-depth, while the centre and left are double-depth, with a rear extension to the left. The building is two storeys high, with a cellar.

The symmetrical front elevation has three bays, with the central bay projecting slightly. It features a plinth, a string course, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course above the centre. The central doorway is framed by engaged Ionic columns, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course. The doorway has plain jambs with impost blocks, and a panelled door with an elliptical fanlight. All the windows are sash windows without glazing bars, and those over the door have a recessed gauged brick head. Raised sills on sill blocks and wedge lintels are visible on all the windows.

Cellar area railings are located to the left of the door, with a stone plinth and alternate curvilinear and stick balusters.
