Description

Two town houses, numbers 22 and 23 Ribblesdale Place, were built around 1840 and have been altered since. Number 22 is now offices, and number 23 is a surgery with a flat above. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The buildings form an L-shaped block on a corner site; number 22 is double-depth and single-fronted, with a rear extension, while number 23 is attached to the south side, facing south, and is single-depth and double-fronted.

The houses have two storeys with cellars and attics. A first-floor sill band, plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course run along the top. Number 22 is two bays and is part of a terrace including numbers 19 to 21. The doorway is in the second bay, approached by four steps, and features an engaged Ionic column doorcase with a plain frieze, moulded cornice, plain jambs with imposts, and a recessed panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight containing radiating glazing bars. It has twelve-pane sash windows with raised sills and wedge lintels. A cellar window sits to the left of the door with a grating over the well. A ridge chimney is located to the left, and a modern dormer to the right. The gable end of number 23, to the right, has similar windows on both floors and a round-headed attic window with radiating glazing bars. The south-facing facade of number 23, with four bays, has a doorway in the second bay, matching that of number 22, a canted bay window to the right, and patched brickwork in place of former windows in the first bay on both floors. Other windows are similar to those in number 22. A screen wall extends to the right, with an inserted garage door.

The interior of number 22 has a dog-legged staircase with stick balusters. The interior of number 23 has been altered.
