Description

Slackwood Farmhouse is a house with origins dating back to the late 17th century, which was largely rebuilt in 1713 by William Walling, as indicated by dendro-dated roof and stair, with 19th-century alterations. The building is constructed of rendered rubble and features a slate roof. It has a deep double-pile plan that is unusually early for its type, with gable stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics.

The south wall has been altered in the 19th century and consists of two bays, featuring windows with wooden mullions and transoms, along with a central doorway that has plain reveals. The east gable, which faces the road, includes a ground floor window with plain reveals, a 3-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, and a similar 2-light window in the attic. Additionally, there is a horizontal sliding sash window with glazing bars and plain reveals that also lights the attic.

On the west gable, there is a 1-light chamfered window on the ground floor, a window with plain reveals on the first floor, and two 2-light rebated and chamfered windows in the attic. Under the eaves, there is a blocked ?-light chamfered window. The north wall retains its rebated and chamfered mullioned windows, which include one 2-light window on the left, one 3-light window on the right, and a later window with plain reveals in between, along with a coal hole to the cellar that has chamfered sides. On the first floor, there is a 3-light window on the right side, with two 3-light windows in the center, one above the other, providing light to the stairs. The gables are finished with copings and kneelers.
