Description

The Eccles War Memorial is a war memorial located on Church Street in Eccles, dating from around 1920. It was sculpted by John Cassidy and is made of Portland stone featuring a bronze sculpture. The memorial showcases an angelic figure holding a palm of victory, which stands atop a tall, tapering square shaft with a moulded plinth. On the front of the shaft, there is a cast panel in relief depicting a battle-clad figure above an inscription that reads, "In memory of those from the Borough of Eccles who gave their lives in the wars 1914-1918 and 1939-1945."
