Description
Rochdale Canal Lock Number 58 and the adjoining bridge were built between 1794 and 1804, designed by engineer William Jessop. The lock is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features double upper gates, although the lower gates have been removed. There are minor 19th-century repairs to the walls. The segmental-arched bridge at the lower end of the lock has a band and triangular-topped coping stones. The walls have square terminating piers on the west side, while they sweep down to ground level on the east side.
