Description
The lodge located in the churchyard to the east of Brookfield Unitarian Church, with an attached wall, was likely built around 1870, possibly by architect Thomas Worthington. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a slate roof. The building is designed in an L-shape, with a projected gable facing the road and a wing on the right side. It showcases Gothic architectural style, being a single storey under a steeply pitched roof with very low eaves. The entrance includes a segmental-headed doorway with a two-centred arched extrados, topped by a steep gable that has a fleur-de-lys finial near the junction with the wing. The gable facing the road has a mullioned window with three arched lights, while the wing features a two-light window in its gable. The gables are coped, with the wing's gable having coupled cylindrical chimneys, and there is another chimney on the left side. The attached churchyard wall is made of coursed rubble with chamfered ashlar coping and supports low spiked railings. There are two gateways, one near the lodge and another close to the west end, both featuring decorated cast-iron gates. This lodge is part of a group that includes the church, the Peacock Mausoleum, and the former Sunday School.
