Description
This is a row of three cottages located on Far Lane in Gorton South, Manchester. They were built in 1782, as indicated by a datestone, and have been altered since. The cottages are constructed of brown and yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof. Each cottage has a double-depth plan and a single front. They are two storeys high with basements, and each has one or two windows. Doorways are set five steps above ground level, with variations in placement. Basement windows are small, square windows with flat-arched heads and keystones are found on the ground floor, while the first-floor windows are oblong and have been altered over time; windows at number 46 have no glazing bars, while numbers 48 and 50 have small-paned glazing. An ogee-headed niche above the doorway of number 48 contains a datestone with ornamental detailing, including a central shell or fan motif, along with the letters "S E A 1782". There are two ridge chimney stacks, with a double stack at the junction of numbers 46 and 48, both featuring water-tabling. The rear of the cottages has altered openings. The interior has not been inspected.
