Description
This is a row of three cottages located at 56 to 60 Tan Yard Brow, dating from the later 18th century and altered over time. They are constructed of handmade brick in Flemish bond and feature a stone slate roof. The cottages have a rectangular double-depth plan, with each being single-fronted. They rise two storeys above a basement, which is exposed at the rear due to the sloped site. The front elevation has three windows, with the ground floor windows having segmental heads; all are three-light but have altered glazing. The gable wall contains two- and three-light casements, along with a blocked three-light basement window that has stone mullions. The rear of the cottages features three-light casements on all floors, as well as additional windows. Inside, some exposed ceiling beams can be seen. Historically, these cottages were occupied by workers from a nearby tannery, which closed in 1959.
