Description
A pair of early 19th-century town houses, located on the north side of Abbot's Grange. The houses are built of Flemish bond brown brick with a hipped grey slate roof. They are three storeys high and originally featured five windows, though this was reduced from six. The front door to number 4 has six fielded panels, flanked by sidelights above single wooden panels. Pilasters support consoles between the door and sidelights, with spiral-moulded colonnettes to the jambs. A broad radial-bar fanlight is set within a deep segmental arch. The door to number 6 has been replaced, and the two houses are now joined. A first-floor sill band runs along the front. Five recessed 16-pane sashes are visible, along with one opening that has been closed with flush brickwork. The three eastern sashes have flat gauged-brick heads, while the two western sashes have segmental arches, which are of later addition. Five recessed sashes are present on the second floor, with three on the east having 8-pane over 4-pane windows and two on the west having 6-pane over 3-pane windows. A flush chimney with seven flues is located at the east end, with a projecting chimney on the west. The rear elevation features a 20-pane stair window. Inside, doors have six margined panels and architraves with corner roses. A staircase has open strings, shaped brackets, stick balusters, and swept rails.
