Description
Number 37 Bridge Street is a shop that includes part of a medieval undercroft. This undercroft has been integrated into a Neo-Jacobean style brick building designed by Edward Hodkinson and built in 1864 for the second Marquis of Westminster. The Row level and the upper storeys have a separate entry on the National Heritage List for England. As of 2022, the undercroft is occupied by a shoe shop.
The shop, which is accessed at street level, features a short undercroft of medieval origin that has been re-fronted and lined internally in the late 20th century. The rear portion of the undercroft, dating from the late 13th to early 14th century, is now part of number 39 Bridge Street. The Row and upper storeys are in separate ownership.
