Description
The Lodge to Cogshall Hall, built around 1830, is a single-storey structure made of Flemish bond red brick with a grey slate roof and buff sandstone dressings. It is symmetrically positioned to the drive and features a Tuscan pedimented projecting porch with stone antae on the front of the brick side-walls, and a column paired with each anta. The porch has a plain stone frieze and a painted wooden modillion pediment. The entrance door consists of six fielded panels set in a recessed brick opening, with a three-pane fixed light in a recessed brick panel on each side. Each wing has a six-pane casement window that is vertically proportioned and also set in a recessed brick panel. The end gables are pedimented, with a small four-pane casement window facing the road on the right end and a canted bay window, likely from the early 20th century, on the left end. All openings feature flat gauged brick arches. The square central chimney has a stone plinth and a moulded cap, with four flues and a square recess in the brickwork on each side. A mid-20th century rear extension is present but not prominent. The lodge is well composed and detailed, likely designed by the architect of Cogshall Hall, Comberbach.
