Description
The park wall between the main gateway and St Augustine's Convent, which is not included in this listing, is part of the boundary wall of Grosvenor Park in Chester. It was built between 1865 and 1867 by architect John Douglas at the expense of the 2nd Marquis of Westminster for Chester City Council. The wall is constructed from squared snecked sandstone rubble and granite. It features a plinth with replaced railings opposite the lodge, and the wall rises to 2 meters high towards the lodge yard. There is an oak boarded door with ornate hinges set in a stop-chamfered opening with a lintel supported by brackets. The replaced railings extend along the weathered plinth as far as the gateway opposite Bath Street. Additionally, there are a pair of granite piers that diminish to an octagonal section, topped with twice weathered caps. The wall continues with minor openings leading to the grounds of St Augustine's Convent.
