Description
No. 15 and 15A on Lower Bridge Street is a shop and town house with medieval origins that has been altered in the 18th century and later. The building has a rendered front on brick and a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the front. It stands three storeys tall and features a replaced shopfront made of wood and glass, which includes a central door. There is a tall recessed porch on the south side with 11 steps leading to the former Row, topped with a round-arched head.
The second storey has a sill band and two replaced horned sash windows, while the third storey also has a sill band and two replaced four-pane sash windows. A moulded cornice runs beneath the parapet, which has a round-headed central panel with a blank shield, flanked by a balustrade with recessed end panels. Additionally, there is a cast-iron pipe and an old rainwater head.
Inside, the front part of the shop is likely situated in an undercroft that dates back to the later medieval period, with a section behind that features an 18th-century brick barrel vault. The upper storeys do not have any visible features of special interest.
