Description

Number 14 Row and Numbers 16 and 18 Street are two shops and offices located in Chester, dating from around 1804. They are likely built on the site of two undercrofts and townhouses. The buildings are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond, and the roof is not visible.

The exterior features four storeys, including the street and Row levels, with an almost symmetrical front of two bays. Number 16 has a modest shopfront with a full-height window south of a glazed door that has a sub-panel, along with a two-pane window north of the door, and a timber fascia. Number 18 has a modern shopfront. The Row front includes a cast-iron railing with spear-heads, and the sloping stallboard measures approximately 3 meters from front to back, with rendered brick walls at each end and in the center. The pavement to the Row walk is covered, and the back of the Row walk features a flush tripartite sash window with 4; 12; 4 panes on each side of a two-panel door set in a case with fluted pilasters, a frieze, and a moulded cornice, leading to a recessed porch with doors on each side. The stallboard and Row walk have a plaster ceiling supported by wooden beams. The recessed sashes on the third and fourth storeys have painted wedge lintels and stone sills. The third storey has two tripartite sashes, with the northern window having 4; 12; 4 panes and the southern window having some altered glazing bars. The fourth storey has two 9-pane sashes, and there is a lead rainwater pipe and head dated 1804, along with a painted stone cornice and a flush chimney set back at each end.

The interior features are mostly covered, but include a two-panel door on the fourth storey and roof purlins.
