Description

The wall and railings provide access from St Mary's Hill to Castle Square and were built in 1804 by Thomas Harrison as the eastern entrance to his Shire Hall. The structure features a retaining wall, with the western part made of rock-faced red sandstone and the eastern part constructed from ashlar. There is a stone plinth supporting the iron railing, which includes an attached bottom rail, square bars, and a double top rail connected by roundels. The eastern terminal is topped with a pineapple finial, which was found to be damaged during inspection.
