Description
These two cottages at 1 and 3 King Street date to around 1800 and have been significantly restored externally and altered internally. They are constructed of English garden wall bond brown brick with a grey slate roof, the ridge running parallel to the street. The cottages have a rendered plinth. Number 1 is double-fronted, while Number 3 has a single bay. The ground floor of Number 1 features a tripartite sash window with 3, 9, and 3 panes, under a cambered brick head. A six-panel door is set within a small recessed porch featuring a panelled case and a simple renewed pediment. Number 3 has a six-panel door. The windows are renewed; Number 1 has a tripartite sash, and Number 3 has a 12-pane sash. The upper floor contains three 8-pane sashes. Lower windows have painted stone sills, and upper windows have tile sills. Exposed rafters are visible at the eaves, and the verges are flush. The interior of Number 1 retains no features of interest, while the interior of Number 3 was not inspected. The cottages are included on the listing for their group value.
