Description
The gate piers to Alderley Mill Cottage were built in the late 17th century for Thomas Stanley. They are made of buff sandstone with ashlar finish. The piers feature chamfered rustication on a square body, adorned with eight raised bands. Each pier has a projecting moulded capstone topped with a ball finial on a shaped curved stand. Between the piers, there is a pair of 20th-century wrought iron gates. These gate piers are associated with the rebuilding of the Old Hall around 1660 and were designed for an existing brick-walled garden.
