Description
Raikes Hall Hotel is a mid-18th century house that was extended around 1870 and is now a public house and hotel. The building is constructed of brick with stucco, featuring stone quoins and dressings, and has a hipped slate roof. It has a symmetrical main block with five bays and three storeys. The entrance includes a round-headed doorway with a semicircular porch supported by four fluted columns with Acanthus capitals. The exterior showcases rusticated quoins, a string course, and a cornice. The windows have stone sills and keystones, with modern casements that include glazing bars. There are two chimney stacks. The extension on the right side is not part of this listing. Historically, the house was originally the residence of the landowning Hornby family. In 1871, it was purchased by the Raikes Hall Park Gardens and Aquarium Company, which developed the surrounding 51-acre site into Blackpool's main tourist attraction before the Winter Gardens and Tower were built.
