Description

The barn and byre ranges, located approximately 20 meters west of Ormesby Grange Farmhouse, date from the mid to late 18th century. The left byre range has been partly rebuilt and raised by eight courses in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is built of brick with stone quoins around the doorways and features clay pantile roofs with stone ridge copings.

The overall layout is rectangular, forming a U-shape, with a two-storey barn and single-storey byres adjoining on the left. The single-storey byres create a covered fold yard on the right side of the barn. The southeast front of the barn has a central boarded door flanked by renewed windows, an enlarged first-floor opening with a boarded door, and lozenge-pattern breathers. There are brick dentils below the eaves of the hipped roof.

The byres on either side of the barn include a right byre with a boarded door and renewed windows, as well as boarded double doors under a timber lintel at the right end, which features a stop-chamfered angle. The left byre range was originally an enclosed yard with a wall and an opening on the left return; it has since been partly roofed over to create byres. This side has a boarded door and a blocked doorway at the right end, along with clay pipe breathers below the eaves.

The left return of the barn has central boarded double doors under a timber lintel and a relieving arch. Inside the barn, there are galleries at both ends and collared angle-strut roof trusses with two levels of butt purlins.
