Description

Middle Shield House is an early to mid-18th century house. It is three storeys high with a five-window front on the first floor and a three-window front on the second floor. The front of the house is constructed of ashlar. It has a fairly low-pitched roof with kneelers. The windows are horizontal sliding sash windows with glazing bars. A central doorcase features bolection moulding and a broken pediment above the door. The house has gable end chimneys with cyma moulding to the capping, and similar moulding to the labels over the windows. A two-light mullion casement window serves as a stair window at the rear. Later extensions have been added to the right, and early 19th century windows include a three-light sash window to the left.
