Description

The gateway and stable range, along with an attached wall, are located to the north of Eglingham Hall. The gateway dates from the late 18th century and was altered in 1903 by Temple Moore. The stable range features a doorhead dated 1704 with the initials HOG and may include earlier materials; it was also altered in 1903. The wall is from the early 18th century. The gateway is constructed of tooled stone, while the stable range and wall are made of rubble with cut dressings. They have Welsh slate roofs, and the gateway has a timber and lead cupola.

On the south elevation, the gateway has a flattened three-centred arch with a sunk panel above that contains two rows of pigeon holes and an alighting shelf. There is a 1903 open-framed bellcote on the ridge, topped with a pyramidal cap. The stable range to the right is two storeys tall and has five irregular bays. It features a half-glazed door and a pair of 1903 twelve-paned sash windows to the left. Other openings, mostly blocked, include a chamfered doorway with a dated lintel, remnants of two-light mullioned windows, and three circular openings with raised cable-moulded surrounds on the first floor. The roof has a coped gable with a small end stack on the left and a hip end on the right. The attached wall to the right has a doorway in a moulded surround and connects to the east wing of the Hall.

On the north elevation, the gateway features a 1903 gable above the arch, which includes a clock that was brought from the Carlton Club. The stable range has a gabled dormer with a boarded opening and inserted sliding doors. An attached garage block on the north side of the stable range is not of special interest.
