Description
The Fynes Memorial, located in Cowpen Cemetery, was erected in 1892 and is classified as a graveyard memorial. It is made of polished grey granite and features a plinth with a moulded base and cornice that supports a tapering obelisk topped with a flattened pyramid. The memorial bears an inscription honoring Richard Fynes, noted as "the author of the History of the Miners of Durham and Northumberland, and was also one of the founders of the Northumberland Miners Association." The memorial is situated 75 metres southeast of the cemetery chapels.
