Description

This is an 18th-century building, altered over time, located on Marygate. The main part is constructed of stuccoed ashlar with rusticated quoins, rising three storeys high. It features six dormer windows set into a mansard roof covered with slate. A taller three-storey section is situated on the corner of West Street, displaying a cornice and a steep gable dated 1776.

Number 53 has a modern shop front and a modern facade above, characterized by four attached Composite columns and a pierced balustrade. Numbers 55 to 61 share a shop front extending across the ground floor and continuing around the corner onto West Street; they include modern windows on the first floor and sash windows on the top floor. The West Street facade is distinguished by rusticated quoins and two storeys of sash windows above the shop front (ten windows on each floor), with the building’s height decreasing towards the rear.

Numbers 37 to 67 (odd) are considered a group.
