Description
The stable range, located 120 metres north of Acton House, dates from the 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with cut and tooled quoins and dressings, topped with a pantile roof. This single-storey building has five bays and is symmetrical in design. The slightly-projecting centrepiece features a round arch with tooled-and-margined voussoirs, and a slit window above it, all set under a coped gable with moulded kneelers and a finial. The flanking bays contain boarded doors positioned between 16-pane centre-hinged casements, with similar single windows in the end bays. All windows have slightly-projecting sills, and all openings are framed in alternating-block surrounds. The right end has a coped gable. The adjacent east and west ranges have been altered and are not considered of special interest.
