Description
The King's Arms Hotel is a Georgian building located at 43 Hide Hill. It is a large structure built in three sections, each with distinct architectural features. The first section is stuccoed and has a large window on the ground floor, along with two windows on each upper floor. The second section features clumsy Venetian windows, with two on each upper floor. The third section has rusticated quoins and gable scrolls, and six windows on each upper floor. The hotel has three storeys of varying heights, all finished in painted stucco. Notably, Charles Dickens stayed here in 1861 and 1858, giving readings from his works in the Assembly Rooms, which are now part of the hotel. There are stables in the rear yard that date back to 1782 and were rebuilt in 1845, although they are of little architectural interest.
