Description

Numbers 56 to 62, Main Street, form an interesting group of early 18th century small cottages arranged in a small close on a hillside overlooking the riverbank. Numbers 56 and 58 are now combined into a single dwelling and occupy the south side of the close. They are three storeys high and built of ashlar stone, with pantile roofing and large brick chimneys. A door leads up stone steps, with a lower door located beneath the steps. They have sash and sliding sash windows. Numbers 60 and 62, previously two cottages on the south-east corner of the close, are now storerooms. These are also three storeys high, built of stone rubble, and have pantile roofing. Each floor has one sash window. Numbers 46 to 52 (even), numbers 56 to 80 (even), and number 84 form a separate grouping.
