Description

No 4 Main Street is a very fine 18th-century house located facing the old bridge in Tweedmouth. The building is two storeys high and features stucco with stone dressings and gable scrolls. It has a window arrangement of 2, 3, and 2. The central group of three windows includes a Venetian window in the middle, which is topped by a pediment and stands out over a portico supported by four Tuscan columns with an entablature, all made of stone. These columns are set on a raised terrace with an ashlar wall and a central flight of steps. Inside the portico, there is an attractive doorpiece with an arched head set within an ogee broken pediment on slender pilasters, and the doorway is flanked by round-headed shell niches.
