Description

Numbers 48 to 52 on Main Street, Tweedmouth, form an interesting group of early 18th century cottages arranged around a small close on a hillside overlooking the riverbank. Number 48 has a pantiled roof and three storeys facing the river, with a section fronting the close accessed by steps leading up to the other cottages. Number 50 is a two-storey building with a pantiled roof, featuring walls of old brick on a stone base and a tall brick chimney. It also has sliding sash windows. A disused extension up the hill includes a small dormer window. Number 52, at the head of the close, is a small two-storey building constructed of ashlar with pantiles, and it has a large brick chimney and a single sash window. Numbers 46 to 52 (even), along with numbers 56 to 80 (even) and number 84, form a related group.
