Description
Church View is a house, originally dating from the 17th century, that was remodelled in 1769 by Thomas Teesdale, as indicated by the date and initials TTM carved on the doorhead. The front is built of squared stone, while the rear is of rubble construction. The roof is covered with stone slates and there are stone and brick chimneys. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with a slightly irregular appearance. It features rusticated quoins and sill bands. A six-panel door is centrally located within a moulded surround topped with a cornice, and is set within a later rendered porch. Four-pane sash windows are set in raised stone surrounds. The gables are coped and have moulded kneelers, and the right-hand end stack is stepped and corniced with two conjoined shafts. The left-hand end stack has been rebuilt in brick, which is now rendered, but retains its original base. The rear elevation shows roughly-shaped quoins of the original 17th-century house on the right side, and an 18th-century outshut on the left. Inside, the east room has a large fireplace with a flat-pointed head within a square frame, featuring a wave-moulded surround. A nearby farm building to the east, with a 20th-century metal roof, is not considered to be of architectural interest.
