Description

Stanegarth and the adjacent farmbuilding to the east is a house dated 1728, featuring the initials RJ on the doorhead, with the farmbuilding likely built in the later 18th century. The structure is made of coursed rubble with long, roughly-shaped quoins and cut dressings, topped with stone slate roofs. It is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The entrance includes a four-panel door with a two-pane overlight, set in a moulded surround with a cornice. The windows are plate glass sashes in raised stone surrounds. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and the end stacks have been rebuilt on old bases.

To the left, there is a single-storey, one-bay extension from the later 18th century, which is fronted by a 20th-century glazed conservatory. The left return features a reverse-stepped gable. The farmbuilding to the right has a small boarded window on the first floor. The rear elevation includes a later outshut to the house, while the farmbuilding to the left has a boarded door with a part-slatted window and a boarded window above, all set in chamfered surrounds.

Inside, the parlour has a plaster cornice decorated with roses and hops, along with some two-panel doors and other 18th-century fittings. The roof consists of five principal-rafter trusses with collars, two levels of purlins, and a diagonally-set ridge supported between the overlapped ends of the principals; the central truss principals are likely re-used cruck blades.
