Description
The Granary is a former granary or grain warehouse built around 1780, with minor alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and is rendered on the southeast side. It features corrugated asbestos roofs and coped gables, along with quoins. The building stands five storeys tall, plus attics.
On the northwest elevation, there are eleven openings on each floor, with three large 20th-century concrete buttresses positioned to the right of the third, fifth, and seventh openings. Originally, all openings were two-light with plank shutters and stone lintels, but most of the central ones have been bricked up. There is a single raking dormer with a plank loft door. The southeast elevation also has ten openings on each floor, all equipped with plank shutters. The southwest gable wall features a canted first-floor taking-in door.
Inside, there is a row of single wooden columns that support central spine beams and wooden floors, along with a wooden staircase. An internal wooden frame was added shortly after construction to strengthen the building.
