Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a church located on Church Street in Seaton Carew. It was built in 1831 by T. Pickersgill, with the chancel added in 1842 by Jackson. The church underwent alterations in 1864 and 1891, and the tower was modified around 1980. It features dressed limestone and Welsh slate roofs with stone gable copings, designed in a 13th-century style.

The three-stage tower has angle pilaster buttresses, moulded strings between the stages, and a rebuilt embattled parapet with obelisk angle finials. The south doorway is chamfered and has a hoodmould above it. The lower stage of the tower has a tall lancet on the west face, with additional lancets on the middle stage and metal open-work clock faces attached to paired louvred belfry lancets, which are also under stopped hoodmoulds.

The nave consists of four bays, with pilaster buttresses at the corners and between chamfered lancets, all featuring leaded-light glazing beneath hoodmoulds. There is a moulded eaves cornice and a low-pitched roof with a cross finial at the gable. The lower four-bay chancel has lancets beneath a continuous string course, and a gabled porch on the third bay with a chamfered doorway under a stopped hoodmould and a trefoil opening. The east window has a tripartite lancet design. Cross finials adorn the gables of both the nave and chancel. The chancel roof features queen-post trusses, and there is stained glass by Wailes from around 1917 in the east window.
