Description
A pair of terraced houses dating from the early 19th century are located on South End, Seaton Carew. The houses are stuccoed and have a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge and gable copings. Two rendered stacks are visible, one to the ridge and one to the left end. The houses are three storeys high, with three bays on the right and two bays on the left. The doorways, which are in the original openings, were replaced in the mid-20th century. No. 5 has a late 19th-century stone bracketed hood above its doorway, while No. 6 has a mid-19th-century timber architrave and an early 20th-century rendered hood. The windows of No. 5 include late 19th-century sash windows to the ground and first floors, and a mid-20th-century casement window in its original opening on the second floor. All upper floor windows have painted wedge lintels and sills. No. 6's ground floor and the right-hand side of its first floor feature late 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars and painted stone sills. A canted oriel window on the first floor to the left has sashes with glazing bars and is flanked by reeded pilasters. Late 20th-century pivoted windows, with painted stone sills, fill the original openings on the second floor. Rear extensions from the late 19th and 20th centuries are not considered to be of architectural interest.
