Description
Strathmore House is a villa, now used as a funeral parlour, built around 1880. It is constructed of brick with polychrome bands and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys, with a three-bay ground floor featuring bay windows that have rounded pilasters, leafy capitals, large carved consoles, and sash windows. The right-hand window has been altered in the mid to late 20th century and now includes stained glass. The central doorway features mid to late 20th-century panelled double doors, flanked by original sidelights and a segmental overlight, all set within a quasi-Tuscan doorcase with panelled reveals. The first floor has five bays with segmental-headed sash windows. An ornamental cast iron balcony spans the entire frontage between the floors. The roof is low-pitched and pyramidal, with an iron finial and rebuilt stacks on the left and right sides. The left return has two bays with sashes in segmental-headed openings. There is a mid to late 20th-century extension to the right that is not of interest.
