Description
A pair of shops with living accommodation over, built in 1898 by J. Garry. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone dressings, and have a Welsh slate roof. No. 125 is symmetrical in design. It features a contemporary shop front with paired sash windows and a half-glazed door, set below cast iron ventilation grilles, framed by projecting ornately-moulded cast iron columns supporting a corniced fascia and decorative cast iron balcony railings. The first floor has four windows, and the second floor has three round-headed windows, all with plain surrounds and recessed under elliptical relieving arches. A stone cornice sits below the parapet, which is ramped at the ends. No. 127 is also symmetrical, with an altered shop front similar to No. 125. The first and second floors have three timber mullioned-and-transomed windows. The second-floor windows are recessed under elliptical relieving arches and separated by narrow half-octagonal and half-lozenge pilasters. The shaped attic gable has seven narrow pilasters framing four round-headed windows, topped with urn and ball finials. The right-hand return front, with two gabled bays, is similar to the main front, and includes a copper-domed turret at the south-west angle. Inside No. 125 are contemporary ceramic wall tiles and meat rails.
