Description

Rise Carr County Primary School, dated 1901, was designed by architect G. G. Hoskins. The school consists of two buildings connected by walls, featuring one tall storey and small attic windows beneath a series of high, shaped gable ends. The overall design is fairly regular, with the main block having four wide bays and the right block having five. Constructed from red brick with terra-cotta dressings, the school has fairly high pitched slated roofs. The inner bays contain two large windows, while the outer bays have three stepped windows, all set under flat gauged brick arches with terra-cotta hoodmoulds. A central narrow octagonal bell turret is adorned with stepped angle buttresses and an open stage featuring wood Perpendicular tracery, topped with a spire and vane. On either side, there are lower, set back linked wings styled similarly. The right building has three bays that project under gables, while the intermediate sections have plain roofs.
