Description
The Aycliffe War Memorial is a stone structure approximately 4 meters tall, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew, which is a Grade I listed building, near the east end of the church. The memorial features a St Andrew fleury cross that rises from an octagonal shaft, which is set on a low square pedestal with broached corners. This pedestal is elevated on a small octagonal step, resting on a low square base.
On the north face of the pedestal, there is a bronze plaque that reads "TO THE GLORY/ OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY/ OF/ (13 NAMES)/ WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18." The west face has a similar plaque that states "TO THE GLORY/ OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY/ OF/ (9 NAMES)/ WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1939 – 1945."
