Description
West Lodge is a lodge to Beamish Hall, built around 1860. It features coursed squared sandstone with ashlar quoins and dressings, and a Welsh slate roof adorned with stone gable copings and fishscale decoration. The building is designed in the Tudor style and has an L-plan layout. It is a single storey structure with three bays.
The central open porch is steeply gabled and has a large flat lintel. Moulded kneelers support the gable coping, which is topped with bud finials. The door consists of two rows of vertical panels set in jambs with large top blocks and an elliptical-headed lintel. On either side of the porch, there are stone-mullioned chamfered lattice casements with label moulds. The steeply-pitched roof is supported by moulded kneelers and features shaped copings with end corniced ashlar chimneys. There is a 20th-century extension on the left side that is not of interest.
