Description
The Middridge War Memorial is located at the roadside on the south side of The Green, enclosed by railings that include a gate and steps from the pavement. The memorial stands approximately 3 meters tall and is designed as a plain Latin cross made of rough-hewn grey granite. The cross shaft rises from a tapering pedestal that is set on a step.
The main dedicatory inscription is on the front face of the pedestal, which reads: "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918. (NAMES) 'THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVER'." In front of the step, there is a sloping granite tablet that records a later dedication: "AND IN THE GREAT WAR 1939 – 1945 (NAMES)." Flanking this tablet are two small flower holders, and there are small planters hanging from the railings on either side of the monument.
