Description

Hunwick Hall is a manor-house that has been converted into a farmhouse, dating from the late medieval period and the 17th century, with some alterations. It forms part of the south-east range of three ranges surrounding a courtyard. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring quoins on the left side and a boulder plinth. The roof is a mix of Welsh slate, felt, and concrete tiles, with brick chimneys and stone gable copings.

The structure is two storeys high, with three bays, and includes a pent section on the left that is one storey tall and has one window. The wall attached to the rear of this section is a remnant of an earlier building. The older part of the house on the left features a four-centred arch in the wall. The left side has a half-octagonal projecting bay window with cusped Tudor-arched heads and iron bars, supported by buttresses with offsets. It also has a drip string and a low-pitched hipped roof. An inserted door to the right has a flat stone lintel.

The two-storey section has a central partly-glazed door and renewed four- and three-light ground-floor windows, all under flat stone lintels. Above the door is a single window, and to the right on the first floor is another renewed three-light window. The first-floor window on the left is a 17th-century design with four stone-mullioned lights, featuring a cornice that breaks forward at the ends and a raised centre panel with eroded carving. The double-span roof has end chimneys, and the copings rest on curved kneelers. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its medieval and 17th-century features.
