Description
The north and south inner piers, located to the east of the Inner North Dock in Seaham Harbour, were constructed around 1828 to 1835 by William Chapman, with later revisions by Rennie and Telford. These piers are built from very large blocks of dressed Penshaw sandstone, some measuring up to 2.5 meters in length. The north pier features an extension to the east, while the south pier, which is shorter, has slightly battered walls that rise to approximately 7 meters in height. The south-east entrance is marked by a pair of cast-iron mooring posts and a 19th-century capstan. The south pier has been partly rebuilt in the late 20th century.
