Description
Old Cottage, located 30 metres north-east of Abbey Cottages, is a cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century, with extensions from the 18th century. It is constructed from rubble and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays, with one room on each floor and later single-storey extensions. The front has a boarded door on the left, but the window openings have lost their original carpentry. There are reduced end stacks, and pent additions on the left side include a blocked door, while the right side has a window under a timber lintel. At the rear, there is a segmental stair projection with a slit window, and another small window with a stone surround at the first-floor level to the left, along with a projecting gabled single-storey wing.
Inside, the cottage features two transverse beams with pyramid chamfer stops, a fireplace with a segmental brick arch, and a wooden newel stair. At the time of the survey, the cottage was derelict and in poor condition, with part of the rear of the southern extension partially collapsed.
