Description

This is a pedestal monument dedicated to Timothy Hackworth, a railway engineer, located 27 metres north-west of the west tower of the Church of St. John. Erected in 1850, it is made of sandstone and features a white marble tablet. The monument has a square plan and is designed in the Greek revival style. It includes a low stepped plinth with a cyma-moulded top, a battered pedestal with the marble tablet on the east face, and a wider cap that has central pediments and large antefixae on each face, supporting a draped urn. The marble tablet is inscribed: "IN AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE OF TIMOTHY HACKWORTH, WHO DIED JULY 7TH. 1850, AGED 63 YEARS."
