Description
The barn at Pen-y-clawdd House is a medium-sized structure that includes an outbuilding range. It features a combination of rubble stone, which is patched in red brick, and has a single roof covered with clay pantiles. The barn is situated on the left side and has double doors beneath a raised catslide roof. The wall on the right is constructed of brick up to the plinth level, with red brick above, which may have replaced a timber frame. There is one pair of casement windows, and the wall steps slightly but remains red brick on a rubble plinth. A door with a timber lintel is present, along with a lower door that has been blocked in stone. Beyond this, the wall is entirely stone with a straight joint, and there is a door with some brick in the jambs at the extreme right, leading to a rubble stone gable end.
The left end of the barn has a gable that has been rebuilt in brick, with an added stone lean-to. The rear wall of the barn is made of rubble stone and features central double doors with arrow-slit vents on each side. The left section of the rear wall includes a door and a window.
The interior of the barn was not accessible during the inspection in November 1999.
