Description

Llansantffraid Court Hotel is a compact country house built of red brick with vitrified headers, raised quoins, and some decorative tile work, topped with a tile roof and brick stacks. Constructed in the Renaissance style influenced by architects such as Lutyens, Reginald Blomfield, and Herbert Baker, it features a double depth plan with a spine corridor, measuring seven bays by four, and has a hipped roof in both directions. The building has two storeys and attics.

The north (entrance) front has a recessed centre arranged in a 2 + 3 + 1 bay configuration. It features a Tuscan porch with paired columns, likely an alteration, flanked by arched windows with raised brick voussoirs. Other windows are large, small-paned mullion-and-transom panes. There is a coved cornice above the recessed centre, and the steeply pitched roof includes five gabled dormers with 2-light casements. A large stack is visible behind the centre of the ridge, and a lower stone wing is attached on the left, which is also an addition.

The west front is dominated by a modern double perron stair in a style reminiscent of Lutyens, leading up to the central first-floor windows and flanked by two very large and tall externally expressed stacks. The stairs feature turned stone balusters and a moulded stone handrail. The left flight has an arched door beneath the landing, while the right leads into the end of the south front arcade. The first floor windows are separated by the chimneys in the pattern W : C : W : W : C : W, with dormers above following the same arrangement. The roof is hipped overall, with the chimneys rising above the ridge.

The south (garden) front consists of seven bays, with the centre three set forward. It has three tall French casements with small panes and arched heads, while all other windows are mullion-and-transom as previously described. There is a coved cornice over the central three bays, and five dormers similar to those on the other fronts.

Inside, the hotel features an arched stone-paved hall with steps leading up to a vaulted spine corridor. The central drawing room contains a late 18th-century marble chimneypiece that has been reused from the previous house on the site. Other rooms were not seen during the resurvey.
