Description
Earlswood Valley Methodist Chapel is a small, two-storey building constructed in the 18th century, with a tiny single-storey wing. The exterior is roughcast over stone rubble, featuring painted stone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The entrance, located at the gable end, has a plank door set in an arched surround with a keyed head and impost blocks. Above the entrance, there is an arched window in a plain surround, which contains a 6 over 6 sash with an intersecting head. The gable features a plain bargeboard.
To the left of the door, there is a memorial inscription on red sandstone, dated 1832. The side elevation includes two arched openings fitted with modern timber windows. The end elevation retains two original arched sashes with 6 over 4 panes. The fourth elevation has a small projecting wing that contains a door and a 3 + 3 casement window at the front, along with a modern window at the rear.
Inside, the chapel is very plain, featuring a panelled gallery front, pine benches, and a high seat. The interior is lit by oil lamps. An inscription, which was not seen during the resurvey, is said to state: "This Chapel was built / in the year 1791 / I have witnessed these words in print / May its light shine forever. O. Collier."
